eveningstar201 02-22-2009 02:53:02 As the summary above says, this is very different from usual dramas about 20-somethings and their love tribulations, which are the staple of Korean dramas (not that that is a bad thing). This drama starts well after most Korean dramas would end: when the couple get together. Mi Young and Min Suk have been married over ten years but they were childhood sweethearts too and their relationship spans over 20 years. They have two children and they are happy. While the first flush of love and romance is well and truly over, they care about each other and are happy together. The drama starts with the family moving into a new apartment. On the day they move into the new apartment, Mi-Young has an argument with one of the movers, Kyung Soo, who damages one of her wardrobes. Kyung Soo is young and attractive but with no fixed job and no aspirations. He moves around from one job to another and doesn't even have a fixed home. Due to the altercation with Mi Young, he is fired from his mover job and takes a job at the local video rental store. Mi Young and Kyung Soo keep meeting in the neighbourhood under hilarious circumstances. In the meantime Min Suk moves to a different department at work and this where he meets Yun Jung, a tv presenter. Min Suk has always been a good, faithful husband who loves his family but he is drawn to Yun Jung and sleeps with her. However, this is not just a husband fooling around; he falls in love with her and feels he cannot live without her. Min Suk asks Mi Young for a divorce, destroying her happy little world, Having been a housewife most of her life and with no work experience, Mi Young is completely lost and struggling. Unable to pay the mortgage to her apartment, she is forced to leave and wanders the streets alone when Kyung Soo comes to her rescue, telling her that there is a place which offers jobs with accomodation. Mi Young embarks on a journey to truly build herself up and discover what she is truly capable of. I can't recommend this drama enough. People who have watched Last Scandal of My Life will feel that this is "ajumma-empowerment" (30 plus housewives discovering there is more to their lives than just raising children and supporting the husband) similar to that drama but I feel like this drama, away from the glitz and glamour of Last Scandal's celebrity male protagonist, is far more realistic and down-to-earth and therefore easier to relate to. I feel that through the hardships that Mi Young has to endure (and there are truly many), when she finally emerges victorious, we feel more satisfied than if she had met another man and married him to live a life of comfort as a housewife once again.
